I lost my last website, which was less one site and really 20 years of blog posts from various blogs I’ve had over the years. It was kind of a relief, though, to be able to start from scratch, so that’s what I’m doing.
Some new things I’m trying
My dream from 1997 through present has been to have a website that doubles as my own starting page for the internet. This site will do that. I will have a feed of social media posts and recently published articles I can read, and I will also have social bookmarks on this site.
The other thing I’ve been wanting to do is find a way to take part in social media without contributing to websites I find problematic (*ahem* the site formerly known as Twitter) or be subject to their algorithms and ads. This site will do that too, thanks to the power of the fediverse and Activitypub. Anyone on the Fediverse will be able to subscribe to posts from the site, and if people response to these posts on the fediverse, those replies will be brought into the posts as comments. I’m eager to see how that works!
I’ve been wanting to get in the newsletter game but without getting on some other big platform, and it looks like WordPress supports newsletters, now, so I’m going to give that a try, too.
